We’ll talk about this wonderful fruit called Quince and you will be very surprised when u see all benefits that this fruit has. Quince, belonging to the same family as apples and pears, is regarded as their distant relative. The fruit is native to the warm-temperate areas of southwest Asia, in the Caucasus region. Quince is very much like a pear in shape. Golden-yellowish outer-layer, when mature. Though it is also grown in the United States, the Asian variety is softer and much juicier. Apart from being eaten raw, quinces are commonly made into preserves and jellies as well.Quince is an ancient fruit, found in Roman cooking and grown across Turkey and southeast Asia. It grows on small trees.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF QUINCE:
Quince has a lot of health benefits. This fruit is good for those suffering from anemia, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and even asthma.Quince boasts of antioxidant properties, which helps the body fight against free radicals and reduces the risk of cancer and Cardio Vascular diseases.
PROMOTES WEIGHT LOSS.
Did u know that quince promotes weight loss?Well, I didn’t know too, I’m happy that from my own blog I’m learning all benefits of this fruit. I’ve quince on my garden but I didn’t know that this fruit has so much value. One of the best ways to keep your weight down and guarantee a speedy metabolism that will keep your system running optimally is to improve your digestion.Quince is high in dietary fiber, like most fruits, but the significant levels mean that your gastrointestinal system works more efficiently and regularly. You will have more energy and keep your excess waste weight down by improving your digestive health.
HAIR GROWTH
The rich mineral content of quince includes iron, copper, and zinc. These 3 minerals, along with various other trace elements, are necessary for the production of red blood cells. When red blood cell production is high, the circulation around your body increases blood, which means that oxygen is carried throughout the body. This causes increased blood flow to the skin and scalp, which increases hair follicle health and stimulates growth.
ALLERGIC REACTION
Quince has long been praised for its ability control allergic reactions. When applied as a salve or gel on the skin, it can benefit atopic dermatitis and similar skin conditions. The high levels of vitamin C also help to control inflammation and improve the health and appearance of your skin.
5 AMAZING FACTS ABOUT THIS FRUIT.
β Quince can help for a good digestion and the syrup acts favorably in the event of diarrhea, uterine bleeding, and hemorrhoids.
β Quinces with honey and mixed breeds, taken one pound per day, can fight against colitis.
β Morning nausea disappears with a half-eaten quince on an empty stomach.
β Quince leaves are also useful against diarrhea, as an infusion (tea).
β Maceration of quince score is useful in cases of anemia, but you should not exclude the specific medications prescribed by your doctor.
MYTH OF THIS FRUIT
Quince is believed to predate the apple, and the apple goes way back β unless, of course, all those ancient mentions like the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden were indeed referring to apples and not the quince. Greek mythology associates the quince with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and many believe that the golden apple given to her by Paris was a quince.
Now time to show 2 really easy recipes that u can prepare in your house. Quinces u can find very easy on the market, now it’s their season.
QUINCE TARTE TATIN
β’4-5 poached quince, sliced into quarters.
β’1/2 cup poaching liquid.
β’1 sheet puff pastry, thawed if using frozen.
β’1/2 cup creme fraiche.
β’1/4 tsp ground cardamom
β’2 tbsp crushed pistachios.
PREPARATION:
Pre-heat oven to 375F degrees.Pour 1/2 cup poaching liquid into a 10′ pie dish or oven-safe skillet.Arrange poached quinces slices on top of poaching liquid, rounded side down.

While the tart bakes, mix the cardamom into the creme fraiche until it is fully combined & crush the pistachios.Once the tarte is done baking, remove it from the oven & allow to cool on a rack for about 5 min.
Carefully place a rimmed serving dish on top of the tart & invert the tart onto the serving dish.Serve the tart warm with the cardamom creme fraiche and crushed pistachios
Then it is ready to eat this is an easy recipe and u can try in your house.
I wanna show how to do Quince jelly (my mom told me this recipe she does always.Quince jelly I’ve done too, by the way, it’s so delicious π) Let’s start… To do quince jelly u will need:
7 1/2 cups sugar.π
3 fluid ounces liquid pectin
4 1/2 cups water
3 pounds quinces, cored and choppedΒ π
1/4 cup lemon juice π
SterilizeΒ 8 jars in boiling water for at least 5 minutes, and have new lids ready.Place the quinces in a large pot, and pour in water.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.Strain off 4 cups of the juice.Mix juice with sugar and lemon juice in a heavy pot, and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly.Stir in pectin, and return to a boil.Boil for 1 full minute, stirring constantly.Remove from heat and skim off foam.Ladle into hot sterile jars, and process for 10 minutes in a hot water bath to seal.Refrigerate jelly after opening.Store sealed jars in a cool dark place after opening.
I hope I helped u, friends, to understand more about this fruit.
The pastry looks scrumptious.
Love all of the benefits as well.

I have never seen so many articles about quince as I have this year, although I have not looked on WordPress before. I know that quince is still popular in other places, but it is quite rare here. Mine are copies of a tree that grew in San Jose for a very long time. I got two cuttings which are good sized trees now. I don’t do much with the fruit but stew it for pectin to mix with other fruit for jelly and jam. Two kids who I grew up with whose mother gave me the trees like the fruit cut in half and baked with a bit of sugar on top. It comes out like a mini apple pie, like a pot pie made with apple and without a crust. It also makes good apple sauce.

I live in Antalya, and there are Quince trees everywhere here. But I didn’t know about its myth and health facts. I love reading your works!
P.S.: I think quinces taste like pineapple core, or vice versa. π

Quinces are very tasty. I’ve only cooked with them a few times and the results were always good … especially the quince paste ‘cheese’ or membrillo which is wonderful served with manchego, a dry Spanish cheese. One day, I want to give making quince jelly a try.

This is as good a place as any to thank you for following my blog. You have given me a new respect for quince. When I was growing up the quince tree in the garden was rather despised, because everyone hoped it was going to be an apple. The fruit was small and hard. So now I am on a quest for quince – quite difficult in my small northern town! Thank you for this very informative piece. Now I’m going to read your others!

Quince jelly is unique, it’ s by far the best thing you can make out off this fruit!
There are hardly any quince trees around still cultivated in our area.
