WHAT ARE PERSIMMONS?
Persimmons are delicious and exotic fruits that do more than serving as a sweet and tasty treat; they have a wealth of health benefits packed inside them, including their ability to improve eye health, reduce signs of aging, prevent various types of cancer, improve digestion, boost your immune system, lower cholesterol, increase your metabolism, strengthen your bones, boost cognitive function, lower blood pressure, and take care of your skin. Furthermore, they can help your body heal faster, aid in weight loss, reduce inflammation and increase blood circulation throughout the body.Persimmon is the name given to a number of different species of highly similar fruits from the same scientific family, Diospyros.
As more information about ancient cultures has emerged, thanks to anthropology and archaeology, different types of persimmons have been classified into the Japanese Persimmon, the American Persimmon, the Black Persimmon, the Date-PlumTree and the Indian Persimmon. All of them share much of the same basic nutritional value and health benefits, with a few notable differences, like fiber content and trace amounts of unusual organic compounds.
Although the most popular version of this fruit was originally native to China, it spread around the world over the past few hundred years, and similar species have also been found in other parts of the world. This suggests that persimmon has been used for thousands of years, in many different cultures. Therefore, there are a number of common names and nicknames for persimmons, including “Jove’s Fire”, “The Fruit of the Gods”
Drained persimmons are very healthy and I always like to consume. when u read what miracles dreined persimmons can do u will be speechless.
Keeps Eyesight Sharp
Persimmon contains a nutrient called lutein zeaxanthin. Lutein zeaxanthin is an isomer and is the most common carotenoid in nature. Studies show that this compound keeps the vision sharp. It works by preventing macular degeneration. Lutein zeaxanthin also cuts the risk of developing cataracts and all types of eye-related diseases. It also prevents eye infections and reverses the damage caused by UV rays.Apart from containing lutein zeaxanthin, persimmon is loaded with vitamin A, C and K. All these vitamins act as antioxidants to restore vision and prevent retinal damage.
Fights Cancer
Persimmon is loaded with antioxidants that protect from free radical damage. Free radical damage triggers cell mutation, leading to cancer. The fruit is also rich in phytonutrients that neutralize free radicals and inhibits DNA damage at the cellular level!Persimmon comes complete with all antioxidant vitamins A, C, K, and Lutein. These nutrients expel free radicals from the body as waste. Studies also show that the fruit contains betulinic acid. This compound inhibits tumor growth.
They fight hypertension and improve heart condition.
The potassium contents of the persimmons are twice that in the bananas, for instance. If you suffer from hypertension, heart condition or arrhythmia, it is especially important to get enough potassium. Although potassium and cholesterol are not interrelated, consumption of potassium high food can reduce the cholesterol. Apart from all other benefits, potassium helps the muscles move, the nerves function and the kidneys filter the blood. And now time to show an very delicious recipe that u can make it.
Ingredients for Persimmon Bread:
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 Tbsp real vanilla extract
3 cups Fuyu persimmon pureed (a little over 1 1/2 lbs)
10 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 tsp baking soda, sifted to make there aren’t lumps
1/4 tsp (generous pinch) of salt
2 tsp cinnamon
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups walnut pieces, toasted
1 cup raisins
cup
How to Make Persimmon Bread:
Prep: Preheat oven to 350˚F. Butter two bread loaf pans. Toast walnut pieces on a dry skillet until aromatic and lightly golden then cool to room temp.
1. Remove tops of persimmon with a butter knife (I’ve broken the tip off a good knife doing this before, so I only use a butter knife now). Cut into quarters and puree,.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, and 1 Tbsp vanilla. Mix in 3 cups persimmon puree and the melted butter
3. Add 2 tsp of sifted baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt, and 2 tsp cinnamon and whisk to combine. Whisk in 3 cups flour until blended.
4. Fold in 1 1/2 cups walnuts and 1 cup raisins until evenly dispersed and divide the batter between buttered loaf pans. Bake for 45 – 50 min or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 min then turn out onto a wire rack to cool to room temp.It is perfect breakfast or anytime bread if u make it right u with thank me later it’s really yummy.
This is so interesting. I’ve never had persimmon. I’m not even sure a lot of places sell them in the U.K. I’ll definitely look for them now, though.

I love this fruit. Around here in Germany, they are mostly only sold from autumn to the end of winter, and never in another way than the simple fruit, mostly imported from Israel, sometimes from Spain.
Good to know for probably finding the dried ones in the web. But I fear, they will be expensive, because they are sold as raw fruit with about 0,80 € per piece.
Thank you for following 🙂
